Kashmir University Youth festival Sonzal -2018 concludes | KNO

Srinagar, December 20 (KNO) : The eight-day Youth festival Sonzal-2018 organised by Division of Youth Affairs Department of Students Welfare University of Kashmir concluded here on Thursday. According to a statement issue to KNO, an award distribution ceremony/ valedictory function was held at KU’s Ibn-e-Khalidoun auditorium during which the winners, participants and judges of the festival were awarded with prizes marking the culmination of the eight-day long festival which was attended by hundreds of students from various colleges of the Valley and several departments of the University. Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad was the chief guest at the valedictory function, while Registrar and DCDC KU Prof Neelofar Khan was the guest of honour. While distributing awards amongst the winners and other participants Prof Talat said that youth festivals provide an opportunity to students from various backgrounds and disciplines to interact with each other as well as showcase their talent. He further added “Winning or loosing is not important but the participation is essential as it boosts your confidence.” On the occasion the Vice Chancellor thanked the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Bank and the management of Greater Kashmir for sponsoring the festival. Speaking on the occasion Registrar KU and DCDC KU Prof Neelofar Khan congratulated the participants and jury of Sonzal for the successful conduct of the youth festival during harsh weather conditions. She stressed that such activities should be carried in the campus in future as well. She also appreciated the addition of Mehandi competition in this edition of Sonzal which was not there in the earlier editions. Dean Students Welfare KU Prof Raies Qadri while emphasizing the role of such festivals in his welcome address said: “This platform will help our students to recognize and promote their talent.“ While expressing gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for extending complete support to the festival Prof Qadri added that it is privilege and honour for him to welcome all the students and judges on the occasion and the faculty from different colleges of the valley who made huge contribution for making the festival a successful event Prof Talat and Prof Neelofar Khan distributed awards among the winners of various categories. Cultural Officer, Shahid Ali Khan conducted the proceedings of the valedictory ceremony.(KNO)
